Coverage built for electrical contractors
General liability
Third-party injury and property damage claims, including fire or damage that shows up after the job is finished (completed operations).
Professional liability
Design-build, load calculations, and engineering advice, which general liability usually doesn't cover.
Workers' compensation
Required in Utah for businesses with employees, and needed for your DOPL contractor license.
Commercial auto
Work vans and trucks, plus hired and non-owned auto for employees who drive their own cars on the job.
Tools & equipment floater
Testers, wire pullers, lifts, and tools stolen from a van or damaged at a job site.
Commercial umbrella
Extra limits above your liability and auto policies when a large fire loss or a contract calls for more.
Gaps we check on every review
Having a policy and being properly covered are two different things. When we review insurance for electrical contractors, these are the claims we look for first:
- A fire months after the job, traced back to your wiring
- Design or load-calculation errors on design-build jobs
- Wire, panels, and materials stolen from a site before the owner takes over
- Contracts that require higher limits or additional insured wording than you carry

Frequently asked questions
Do electricians need professional liability insurance?
If you design systems, size services, or give engineering-type advice, it's worth a look. General liability is built for injury and property damage, not for financial losses caused by a design or advice error. Availability varies by carrier.
What insurance do I need for my Utah contractor license?
Utah's Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) requires active contractor licenses to keep general liability insurance in force, and workers' compensation if you have employees. Owners without employees may qualify for a waiver. We can help you show the proof DOPL needs.
Can you issue certificates for my general contractor or property manager?
Yes. Once you're insured with us, we handle certificates of insurance and additional insured requests, as allowed by your policy.
I already have insurance. Can you still look at it?
Absolutely. Many contractors call us for a second look before renewal. We'll review what you have and tell you plainly if we see gaps.
