Coverage built for general contractors
General liability
Third-party injury and property damage claims, including completed operations after a project is turned over.
Workers' compensation
Required in Utah for businesses with employees, and needed if you hold a DOPL contractor license.
Builder's risk
The structure and materials while a project is under construction, including theft and fire.
Commercial auto
Pickups and work trucks, plus hired and non-owned auto for staff driving their own cars.
Contractors professional liability
Design-build and project management errors that general liability usually doesn't cover.
Commercial umbrella
Extra limits above liability and auto when owners, lenders, or GCs require higher limits.
Gaps we check on every review
Having a policy and being properly covered are two different things. When we review insurance for general contractors, these are the claims we look for first:
- Uninsured or underinsured subcontractors that end up on your policy at audit
- Contracts that require additional insured, primary/non-contributory, or waiver of subrogation wording you don't have
- Construction defect claims years after a project closes
- Materials stolen from a site before the building is enclosed

How it works
Call us or request a call back
Tell us what kind of work you do, roughly how big your crew is, and when your current policy renews.
We shop it for you
As an independent agency we compare options from several carriers, so you don't have to fill out the same application again and again.
Review it with a real agent
We go through what's covered and what isn't, then handle certificates and additional insured requests for your jobs.
Have this handy for a faster quote
- Type of projects (residential, remodel, commercial) and typical contract size
- Annual revenue, payroll, and amount paid to subcontractors
- Whether you collect certificates from every subcontractor
- Vehicles and the value of your tools and equipment
- Current policy and its renewal date, if you have one
Don’t have it all? Call anyway.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my audit charge me for my subcontractors?
If a subcontractor didn't have their own general liability or workers' comp in force, many policies count what you paid them as if they were your own employees. Collecting current certificates from every sub before they start work helps prevent that.
What insurance do I need for my Utah contractor license?
Utah's Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) requires active contractor licenses to keep general liability insurance in force, and workers' compensation if you have employees. Owners without employees may qualify for a waiver. We can help you show the proof DOPL needs.
Do I need builder's risk on every project?
It depends on your contract. Owners and lenders often require it, and sometimes the owner buys it instead of you. We'll help you read the insurance section of the contract so nothing is missed.
I already have insurance. Can you still look at it?
Absolutely. Many contractors call us for a second look before renewal. We'll review what you have and tell you plainly if we see gaps.
