Coverage built for painting contractors
General liability
Overspray on a neighbor's car, paint spilled on new flooring, or a client tripping over your equipment.
Workers' compensation
Required in Utah for businesses with employees, and needed if you hold a DOPL contractor license.
Commercial auto
Work vans and trucks, plus hired and non-owned auto for crew members using their own cars.
Tools & equipment floater
Sprayers, ladders, scaffolding, and tools stolen from a van or damaged on site.
Lead & pollution coverage
Lead paint and other contamination claims that standard general liability policies usually exclude.
Commercial umbrella
Extra limits above liability and auto when a commercial or HOA contract calls for more.
Gaps we check on every review
Having a policy and being properly covered are two different things. When we review insurance for painting contractors, these are the claims we look for first:
- Lead paint claims on older homes that run into the pollution exclusion
- Overspray damage to vehicles or buildings next to the job
- Ladder and scaffold injuries to crew members without workers' comp
- Subcontracted painters who don't carry their own insurance

Frequently asked questions
Does general liability cover lead paint claims?
Usually not. Most general liability policies exclude lead. Federal lead-safe work rules also require firms doing paid renovation or painting in most pre-1978 homes to be certified. If you work on older homes, ask us about lead or pollution coverage.
Do I need workers' comp if my painters are subcontractors?
If they don't carry their own coverage, your policy may end up paying for injuries on your jobs and charging for them at audit. Collect a current certificate from every sub before they start.
Can you issue certificates for my general contractor or property manager?
Yes. Once you're insured with us, we handle certificates of insurance and additional insured requests, as allowed by your policy.
I already have insurance. Can you still look at it?
Absolutely. Many contractors call us for a second look before renewal. We'll review what you have and tell you plainly if we see gaps.
